🔵 Identify Reusable Techniques

Phase 3. Recognize techniques that can be applied to other problems.

Goal

Identify the important techniques and tools demonstrated in the example and explain when and why they may be useful.

Identify the Techniques and Tools

For each important technique and tool used, consider:

  • WHAT: What does the example demonstrate?
  • WHY: Why was this appropriate for the problem?
  • WHEN: Under what conditions would this be useful?
  • WHERE: What other problems might benefit from this?
  • LIMITATIONS: When would this be inappropriate or insufficient?

Examples

Techniques and tools may include:

  • Validating data before analysis.
  • Grouping and summarizing observations.
  • Separating reusable functions from main().
  • Establishing a baseline before evaluating a model.
  • Creating visualizations to communicate results.
  • Using logging and tests to verify execution.
  • Using uv to manage Python environments and dependencies.
  • Using pytest to verify expected program behavior.

Success

You are ready to continue after:

  • [ ] Identifying useful techniques from the example.
  • [ ] Explaining how and why they were used.
  • [ ] Recognizing when they could be applied to other problems.
  • [ ] Distinguishing reusable techniques from project-specific details.
